About the Recipe
Smoothies are a personal favorite. Everyone has a certain way they like theirs. Don't be afraid to experiment with the flavors, textures, and thickness. Using frozen fruit allows for the smoothie to be cold and thick. Fresh allows for a thinner consistency. A mix of both brings a happy medium. Portion sizes will be based on how big your smoothie container is. I love a huge glass full of frozen fruit laced with hidden veggies. The world is your oyster when it comes to smoothies.
Ingredients
Frozen or fresh blueberries and cherries.
1 serving of Greek yogurt either plain or vanilla flavor
Cherry or blueberry juice, pure, no additives.
Water, milk, or milk substitute
1/4 to 1/2 cup of Instant oatmeal flakes (optional but great for fiber, I use quick Quaker oats)
1/2 cup of fresh or frozen spinach (optional but it's a great way to get your greens in)
Preparation
Step 1
Choose the size of your smoothie container and adjust ingredients to fit
Step 2
Place all ingredients into a blender. If your smoothie blender detaches at the bottom, place frozen ingredients at the top of the container to push all the other ingredients toward the blades. Cherry juice to taste. A little goes a long way. Use water, milk, or milk substitute to provide enough liquid to churn the blades and according to the desired consistency that you want. I go sparingly on the liquids to have a nice, thick smoothie.
Step 3
Blend as needed to chop up all ingredients and combine them. Enjoy!
